Horses of Peru

The city of Trujillo has one of the longest traditions in Peruvian Paso horse breeding. Esteemed for their graceful movement in combination with marinera dancers, these horses descend from Berber, Arabian and Andalusia horses that the conquistadors brought to America. Nevertheless, natural selection and environment have created a different animal with a unique stride. As opposed to other breeds, which only walk in a crossed manner (moving right fore leg with left hind leg), Peruvian Paso horses can also amble, that is, advancing both legs on the same side at the same time.
