Cusco of the Incas Cusco of the Incas
Cusco of the Incas

One of the principal idols of the Inca Kings and their vassals was the imperial city of Cusco, which they worshipped as if it were holy. Such was their veneration that they exhibited it even in commonplace ways; so that of two natives of equal status were to meet on a road, one coming from Cusco and the other going there. The one entering would respect and defer to the one coming away, as an inferior would a superior, solely because he had been in the city.
